Deep in the Heart Movie

If you've ever travelled through Centerville, Texas or paid any attention to Brangus ranches, you've probably heard of Champion Ranch, owned by Richard "Dick" Wallrath. Wallrath is a real life cattleman who recognizes the value of Brahman influence genetics and thus breeds Brangus cattle. (Hey, I had to figure a way to tie this in to the BRAHMAN blog in some way!)

Wallrath is the largest single donor to Texas FFA and Texas 4-H programs, and the inspiration for a new movie that comes out this weekend called "Deep in the Heart." The movie is about Wallrath's life, and talks about he had personal struggles but found his faith to overcome them and become the success he is today.

The movie debuts here in Texas this weekend, and depending on how well it goes over may be launched nationwide. So if you're looking for a good family movie about a real rancher, here's one to go see this weekend!

This year, we are giving a great big shout out to all of our love birds on love day! One of those happens to be one of our favorite Brahman girls, Ashley Charanza! She and fiancèe, Boone are celebrating this Valentine's day preparing for their wedding. Ashley had us help her by designing these great Save the Date magnets.

San Antonio Results

Lots of Brahman friends braved the chilly weather yesterday for the San Antonio stock show.

Once again Brahmans were the biggest breed at the open show, with 173 grey and 97 head of red cattle.

This show included lots of new faces in the winners circle as judge Wes Hudson sorted through the show.

Schneider Brahmans San Antonio All Breeds Bull Sale

The San Antonio All Breeds Bull Sale will be held next week on February 15th in conjunction with the San Antonio Stock Show. Last year, the Brahman bulls were sale attractions and some of the high sellers and high grading bulls of the sale.

Deep South Brahman Association Sale

The newly formed Deep South Brahman Association will be holding their 1st annual registered Brahman & Brahman F-1 Sale on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Southeast Mississippi Livestock Association on Hwy 49 North in Hattiesburg, MS.

Consignments are now being accepted through March 15th, 2012. Cattle will be screened and only the top quality cattle will be sold.

Brahman breeders, in less than a month we'll be moving into Reliant for a week of fun! Are you ready to make a great impression to the International Brahman community?

Here are what we feel are the necessary items to help make a great impression and help market your product.

1. Business cards for your ranch (We can do a set for $100 turnkey)
2. A large display banner or visual element to hang in your booth that showcases your ranch name.
3. End panel signs to help easily identify your cattle.
4. Individual signs for each animal in your showstring stating name, sire, dam, and birthdate. (Average $20-$25/sign)
5. An ad in the Brahman Review. The Houston issue of The Brahman Review is the keepsake item that International Brahman breeders look for at Houston. Even if you only advertise once a year, THIS is the issue to be in. Rates start at $150 up to $500 for a full page color ad.

Farewell Tribute to Mr. Cliff Sowell

This evening we remember Mr. Cliff Sowell who was called to heaven yesterday, January 19th. He was a Brahman breeder from Castroville, Texas, and is remembered as a kind and gentle man who was a friend to everyone he met. He loved Brahman cattle and more importantly, Brahman people.

His funeral arrangements are:
At the Hurley Funeral home in Devine, Texas.

Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Sunday. And the funeral will be at 10am on Monday.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sowell family. May you forever remain in our hearts.

“Several Rio Grande Valley Brahman breeders met on January 10th at La Muneca Ranch with Chris Shivers from the ABBA and formed The RGV Brahman and F-1 Association. Following our the new officers and board members : Mike England – President, Carlos X. Guerra Jr. – Vice President, Jana Acevedo – Secretary, Sam Sparks III – Treasurer with Pedee Abrigo, Israel Davila and Javier Moreno serving as Directors.” states Jana Acevedo.

“We plan to meet quarterly at different ranches in our four county area to get to know each other’s breeding programs better. We are planning to host a Showmanship Clinic and Show for all Junior Brahman exhibitors at the RGV Junior Show this March. The Most Influential Bulls of the Breed

I've got a new project up my sleeve, and I want your input and opinions! In this project, I'm compiling a list of the most influential bulls of the Brahman breed, past and present. Ultimately, all of the bulls will be compiled into one list...and I'm not sure the # yet, maybe Top 25, maybe Top 100 depending on the results.

So here's a topic that should get lots of opinions.....

Name the 10 red bulls that have had the biggest impact on the Brahman breed.
Name the 10 grey bulls that have had the biggest impact on the Brahman breed.

The criteria is that they have must be 7 years old or older. So they would to have been born prior to 2004 or 2005. This way, we have had time to see their progeny and even in some cases have their progeny's progeny to evaluate.

Of course everyone's going to say "MANSO" and "MILLIONAIRE". Those are already on my list. So don't use one of your 10 spots for either of those 2.

This is a work in progress, and I plan on hitting up lots of people in Fort Worth and Houston to pick their brains about this. But....if you would, email me your list. rachelv8@yahoo.com

If you haven't gotten your Winter 2012 issue yet, be sure to pick one up at Fort Worth. This is our special F1 feature issue, where we fill pages and pages with the attributes of using Brahman genetics in crossbreeding systems and F1 programs. Lots and lots of Queens of Cow Country here!

Isn't it kind of differnet to see an F1 steer on the cover of the Brahman breed's publication? Not what you would expect from a so-called "SHOW BREED" right?? We need more of this! More pictures of the Brahman breeds REAL role in the beef industry--- that being Crossbreeding's Common Denominator and the #1 beef breed for efficiency, hybrid vigor, and environmental adaptability.

This cover steer is one that was fed out earlier this summer at Graham Feedyard. The ABBA is compiling more and more carcass data from both ultrasound and actual kill data to showcase the great improvements made by the Brahman breed in terms of feedlot efficiency and carcass merit. These F1 steers are grading, staying healthy, and making money for their owners. They withstand the hot conditions and thrive. Check out this issue for lots of info on the ABBA F1 program and watch for more in our Houston issue about the latest developments in the carcass quest.

Houston "Meet & Greet"

Have you noticed a new item on the Houston schedule this year, called the ABBA Meet & Greet? I was looking through the schedule, aka part of my Houston Fever, and I noticed this. Then yesterday another fellow Brahman friend called and asked me just what this new event was. I really had no idea, so I called up Chris Shivers and asked about the new event. It sounds REALLY cool!

The ABBA International Committee came up with this idea as a great new way to provide a social opportunity for U.S. breeders and our international guests to meet. The Meet and Greet is going to be held in the makeup arena at the show and will be a social gathering for breeders, show guests, and everyone to get together.

So now everyone knows. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Miami 2012

It's hard to believe the Miami International show has been going on for 5 years! But it's true, this year will be the 5th anniversary of this relatively new show that does so much good towards promoting Brahmans in Florida and to international guests.

I personally have never gone, but I have heard from John Locke that it is a GREAT time! And that the crowds of international visitors are just unbelievable. Brahman breeders always owe a big hats off to Senator Javier Souto and Kelvin Moreno who are two of the biggest Brahman promoters at this great show.

This year's show will be held April 13-15 in Miami. It has been named as a Florida Premier Point Show for 2012. Entries are due January 27th.

New this year is "The Select 7" sale in conjunction with the Magic City Sale held on April 13. The sale features a great offering from many breeders in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. The sale is broadcast on www.cattleinmotion.com.

Houston Fever

Well, hopefully we all got our entries for Houston done this week. If you're like me and tried to enter online I'm sure you also probably had a big headache afterwards ha ha. No seriously, I was complaining about the small font size on the computer screen and my mom reminded me that in the old days she had to enter everything by hand while walking in the freezing snow barefoot to school and so I kinda felt a little guilty. Entering online is actually pretty good.

So with Houston now about 6 weeks away, here's an announcement about the International sale. I think that videos and pictures for the sale cattle will be underway soon and after seeing the list of consignors as well as a few of the sale preview ads it looks like this year's sale is going to be better than ever!

Peyton Has Gone Viral

If we had to pick a "Brahman Photo of 2011" I would have to easily say it is this now famous photo of our adorable little Peyton Sharp, from Dogwood Farms in Amite, Louisiana.

This is no suprise to us. We saw this photo first at the All American in 2010 where it won awards in the photography contest. After that championship, several Brahman magazines also ran the photo that brought smiles to all of our faces.Next, it was entered in the SureChamp photo contest, which is a nationwide photo contest for all breeds, and it won that again!

Now, it has gone VIRAL! For you who don't know what "gone viral" means.... it basically means it's hit the mass public / pop culture in huge numbers. Like one of those viral videos on YouTube everyone has to look at.

I got my first wind of Payton Gone Viral on New Years Eve, when Tricia from The Brahman Review forwarded me an email from her personal (non Brahman Review) email address. Someone had sent the picture of Payton to her as a mass email forward with the caption of "A Real Cowboy Has No Fear -- Happy New Year 2012!"

First I didn't really think anything of it. I forwarded it to proud mom Amanda Sharp who said that she also has gotten a few people sending it to her. Well, over the past 5 days, I have probably gotten this forward from 50 different people. People from all over the U.S. are sending it to me. Especially my cattle friends from up north, because it has a Brahman in it. Today, I got it from the CEO of a major swine breeding operation in Illinois who sent it saying he thought I would like seeing this Brahman picture.

WOW! Payton, you've done it again!!!! As I've said before, Payton's little nekkid hinney has done more for the positive promotion of Brahman than maybe anything else this year. 1)He's shown people in huge numbers that Brahman cattle are GENTLE. We know it, but the public needs to know this more. 2) He's shown the mass public that Brahman cattle are not only gentle, but high quality. This Brahman bull has muscle, moderate frame, full of beef, outstanding quality. Quite honestly he's the type of bull that the beef industry needs to see Brahman people are producing. We as Brahman breeders see this, but unfortunately some people in the industry still have these crazy visual images of Brahman cattle being, well, wild and crappy. We know that's not truth, but others need to see it too!

So yeah, everyone loves seeing little Payton, but after they smile at the little booty, they can't help but notice the beauty of Brahman. The ABBA spends thousands and thousands of dollars per year on advertising to tell others the strengths and attributes of Brahman, but Payton and this little picture have probably done more good for the breed than anything else we've had in a long time.

COST SHARE FUNDING PROGRAM

TO PROMOTE U.S. LIVESTOCK EXPORTS TO BEGIN NEW FISCAL YEAR

U.S. Livestock Genetics Export (USLGE) has received funds which will be available to private breeders, companies, or cooperatives interested in promoting livestock, semen, or embryo sales in international markets through December 31, 2012. These funds are available through the Market Access Program (MAP) of the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The USDA’s Branded Products Promotion Program - livestock and livestock germplasm portion of which is administered through U.S. Livestock Genetics Export (USLGE) - has had success in helping breeders and small companies gain entry and establish identity of their branded livestock and germplasm in international markets. Participants in the USLGE Branded Promotion Program use their own money, leveraged with matching funds from the branded program to develop export markets for their livestock and germplasm. The MAP branded funds are used to supplement, but not supplant private funds that would be used for promotional activities. The program goal is to help the U.S. Livestock Industry increase the international demand for US livestock and genetics.

The MAP Branded Program provides for partial reimbursement (up to 50 percent) of approved activities such as international advertising, the development, translation and distribution of promotional materials, and participation in foreign trade shows and exhibitions. Funds cannot be used for travel or personnel reimbursement. An administrative fee is charged to participate in the program.

The allocation of these funds will be made to eligible participants on a fair and equitable basis as set by FAS and consistent with the goals and objectives of the MAP program as outlined by Congress. Funding criteria is based upon available funding, anticipated economic impact and the completeness of the application.

The Branded program is a small part of the larger coordinated USLGE effort that includes generic funding from USDA’s Market Access and Foreign Market Development programs to promote foreign sales of

U.S.

livestock and genetics.

Applications are now being accepted and will be considered throughout the year pending availability of funding.

Counting Down to WBC 2012

In 2010, due to my then-pending arrival of the most beautiful little girl in the world, Mollie Jo Cutrer, I didn't get to go to the World Brahman Congress in Brazil. So I am personally counting down the days til the WBC 2012 in Panama. Pedro and the rest of the WBC staff have been working for the past 2 years to promote the Congress and make sure everyone is welcome. As we enter into 2012, we are just 6 months away from this great event. Here is an overview of the preliminary schedule. Be sure to keep your eye out for more information from the ABBA as plans begin for the group trip.

In December, The Brahman Review received a very special invitation from the hosts of the WBC to visit Panama on a special Brahman Media Tour. They had invited 7 editors of the Brahman publications worldwide to offer a Congress Preview. The First Red Bull in the Register of Renown

I created that interesting title just so all you Brahman history buffs who read the title would stop and think...hmm....WHO was the first red bull in the ABBA's Register of Renown.

The answer is featured in the upcoming Winter 2012 issue of the Brahman Review in our new column - "Looking Back".

Rio Cherokee 978, a bull owned by Henry Clay Koontz of the HK Ranch was the first red bull to go into the ABBA Register of Renown. I found this old copy of an ad or flyer that my dad had gotten from Henry Clay years ago. There is a really neat story about how Henry Clay bought Rio Cherokee from C.E. Yoakum too in this article.

I always enjoy a little history, especially in neat stories from old breeders who I wish I would have had the chance to personally know. Look for this article in the upcoming Brahman Review!

I am very sad to post that Chris Dickens, from Lazy D Farms in Mississippi passed away early on Christmas morning from complications with his pancreas. The visitation will be held this afternoon (Tuesday) from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and the services will be held on Wednesday morning, December 27 at the Jones Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi starting at 11:00 a.m.

Chris' nephew B.J. Dickens described Chris as "one of the best hearted men I have ever known." Please keep Mr. Bobby and Mrs. Carolyn, Jeff and Tina, BJ, and the entire Dickens Family in your prayers at this time.

ABBA Selects Libby Williams as New Director of Communications and Youth

HOUSTON, Texas – The American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) announces the hire of Libby Williams of Elbert, Colo., as Director of Communications and Youth Activities. In this position, Williams will be responsible for promoting American Brahman cattle through multiple communications outlets including print media, Web sources and social networking media. She’ll also be directing the American Junior Brahman Association (AJBA), including advising the junior board, planning and managing the “All American” National Junior Brahman Show and coordinating additional youth activities.

“This is a new position that the ABBA feels is important to better promote the breed and the organization,” ABBA Executive Vice President, Chris Shivers said. “We are excited to have someone join our staff with the knowledge and experience that Libby exhibits. With her help, we will be able to better promote the breed and the association to the industry.”

Williams grew up active in 4-H, both showing and judging livestock. She graduated Colorado State University with bachelor’s degrees in Animal Science and Journalism and Technical Communications. While in college, Williams competed on collegiate livestock judging teams, wrote weekly columns for the Rocky Mountain Collegian, served as president of the Block and Bridle club and interned with AgCareers.com, the National Western Stock Show and the National Swine Registry.

Williams will begin her official duties with the ABBA in January out of the office in Houston, Texas.

Houston 2012 Show Judge: Chris Sankey

With any show — and especially Houston — everyone seems to ask "Who's the judge?" and "What does he like?" This year the 2012 International Show will be judged by Chris Sankey of Council Grove, Kansas. Here is a little more about this esteemed judge of our biggest show of the year!

Chris Sankey and his wife Sharee own and operate Sankeys 6N Ranch, a registered Angus and Brangus operation in the flint hills near Council Grove, Kansas. They have two children, Cody Sankey of Lansing, Michigan and Jeana Hurlbut of Clark, South Dakota.

Chris is a graduate of Kansas State University where he was a member of the Livestock Judging Team. He is past President of the Kansas Angus Association and Kansas Brangus Breeders Association, past Chairman of the Kansas Livestock Association Purebred Beef Council and International Brangus Breeders Association Activities Show Committee. He is currently a member of the American Angus Association Board of Directors.

The Sankeys have raised and shown many National Champions in both the Angus & Brangus breeds. They include the 2008 Roll of Victory Angus Show Bull of the Year, three International Brangus Breeder Association Show Bulls of the Year and three IBBA Show Heifers of the Year. Chris & Sharee were selected International Brangus Breeders Association Herdsman of the Year in 1996-1997.

He has judged many National, Regional and State Shows of all breeds. Shows include the National Western, American Royal, North American International Livestock Exposition, Houston Livestock Show, Ft. Worth Stock Show, Dixie National and the Arizona National. Many of these shows were Roll of Victory Angus Shows and National Breed Shows. He has also judged internationally in Mexico evaluating three National Breed Shows. Junior Nationals judged include National Junior Angus Show, National Junior Shorthorn Show, National Junior Brahman Show and National Junior Black & Red Brangus Shows.

Junior Herd Builder Award

Applications are now out for the 2012 Junior Herd Builder Award, which is donated by Steve and Amy Good. This program was started in 2011 as a way to help encourage junior members to build their own breeding programs. Last year, the Goods donated a herd sire prospect which was won by Caleb Bendy. This year, the Goods are donating a semen package that will allow the junior to make his choice of semen on several outstanding sire.

And, he's done it again! This week Peyton and his famous naked hinney picture won the Sure Champ Holiday Photo Contest.

In his International Championship of Photo Contests, Peyton's picture has been featured in the Brahman Review, The Brahman News of the World, and many other publications in addition to his Sure Champ win.

Of course this picture makes you smile. But when Peyton wins these contests, he not only brightens everyone's day but he also shows the world the magestic traits of the Brahman breed. If you have gotten an email today from Judd Cullers stating he is trapped in Spain and needs help in getting home to the U.S., this is a hoax. Even if you got a second email saying it isn't a hoax...it is. I just talked to Judd and he is safe and sound in H town.

His email was hacked and is frozen for 24 hours as they investigate the hacker.

On a positive note, you know you can count on Brahman folks!

When we arrived at work this morning, the first thing Joelynn said is "Did you hear what happened to Judd! We need to help him!"

Also, someone called the U.S. Embassy to see if they could help get him home.

Getting Excited about Panama!

I just had a great meeting with Pedro Vallarino Cox, president of the 2012 World Brahman Congress. And I just couldn't help but immediately write a blog because I am really getting excited about the WBC. The congress will be held next summer in Panama. I had the honor of going to Panama a few years ago to photograph donors for Carlos Lee. It was awesome! Everyone always says that Panama is so easy to travel to because they are very friendly to Americans. While this is true, it is helpful to still know Spanish. For example, after I arrived, I was starving, so we went to a McDonalds. Carlos always said it is just like America so I placed my order at the drive thru in English. By the time I had drove around to the pick up window, every employee in that McDonalds had crammed into the drive thru window to look at me like I was Paris Hilton or something. They were all staring and laughing at me, I guess because I ordered in English!!

Anyway....

So during our meeting, I learned about many of the ideas and activities for the Congress. It will include 1 day of workshops, 2 days of cattle judging, and the rest of the time...fun! It will be held in Panama City which is as nice of a town as Houston. The hotel that is the headquarters hotel is a Sheraton, and I have driven by there before and it is very nice. There is a Hard Rock Cafe right by it. So you can get a hamburger anytime. :)

One of the coolest ideas they are having is an International Internet Sale at the Congress. Consignments would be open to Brahman breeders worldwide. To my knowledge, this would be maybe the first sale like this where there are genetics from all different countries offered. Wouldn't that be cool!!

So keep watching for more information. The ABBA will be communicating the registration, travel, etc. when details are available. Also don't forget the ABBA will also hold their summer board meetings at the Congress too. It's going to be great!

Yesterday, while I was working on a project at RHD, my dad offered me to go through his collection of old articles about showing that he had collected through the years. It's like Christmas in November getting to go through all the old stuff. One of my favorites I came across...a clipping called:

"The Ten Commandments For Parents of Kids Showing Beef Cattle"
by Clyde D Lane, Jr., Extension Specialist at the University of Tennessee

1. Thou shall NOT feed, train, and care for the animal...for you are trying to teach children responsibility.

2. Thou shall forgive a child for making mistakes in the showring...for you have made mistakes too.

3. Thou shall NOT get mad when the child forgets items in the showbox...for one day you might forget the whole showbox.

4. Thou shall help the show management. They are doing a good job at a job you would not want to do.

5. Thou shall see that your child is on time for all show activities, for you would not want to wait on another.

6. Thou shall be sure that your child has the animals entered and the registration papers in order at the designated time.

7. Thou shall teach the child that winning a blue ribbin is a desirable goal, but making friends along the way is a much more worthy goal.

8. Thou shall NOT complain about the judge, for it is his opinion that has been sought that day.

9. Thou shall remember that livestock projects are teaching projects...not necessarily money-making projects.

10. Thou shall remember that the livestock project is a family project that should be enjoyed and supported by the entire family.

The Schneiders are offering a premier set of Brahman females most of which are formally from the J.D. Hudgins-Koonce Division keeper cow herd. These reproductively sound donor level females all either have a fall calf at side or are bred and safe in calf.

These females are from leading sires in the Brahman breed that include Liberty, Lawford, Trullo Manso, Sir Forrest Manso, and Union Manso 455/3.

ABBA Membership Convention Recap

Well the 2011 ABBA Membership Convention is in the books.....and if you didn't make it, I have to say...YOU MISSED A GREAT TIME! This was the first ABBA membership convention in a while, and so of course anytime you have something new you always wonder -- How's it going to be? Well, let me tell you in one word: AWESOME!

The convention started on Friday night with an opening cocktail reception in like the penthouse level of Moody Gardens. The view showed the Galveston skyline, the Moody Gardens pyramids, and the food was SO good.

At this reception, we had an ice breaker where everyone went around the room and in about 1 or 2 minutes told who they were, what ranch they were from, and how they got into Brahmans. It was so fun! I knew a lot of people there, but didn't actually know how they got their ranch name. For example, Marcy Lyons Three Sisters Ranch, named for his three daughters. Kay Love's San Miguel Ranch, named after a former ranch employee. Lots of people spoke about how they got into Brahmans through the junior program - either they showed Brahmans themselves as a youngster and continued to remain in the breed, or their children showed Brahmans and they loved it so much they got their own herd.

Then Saturday morning the day started off with a general opening session featuring Dr. Jim Sanders of Texas A&M with a great presentation on history of the Brahman with lots of cool photos and history. From then, the events split up into different workshops you could chooose to attend. There were about 8 workshops throughout the day and each room had great attendance, lots of questions, and interaction.

Finally, Saturday night, we had a great banquet with Aaron Alejandro of Texas FFA Foundation as our keynote speaker. The World Brahman Congress group offered several new "Ambassadors" of the Congress to representatives from each state. Even ol' Marcy got up and got named an official ambassador!

So what else made it so great? The PEOPLE! We just had a really really fun time! I have been to lots of ABBA and Brahman events and I don't think I have ever been to one like this where we just socialized, visited, joked, met new people, etc. It was fun, educational, but also really layed back. Even the ABBA committee reports -- which ADMIT IT -- can sometimes get a little boring --- were fun and enjoyable. Everyone just seemed to upbeat and enjoyable.

If you missed it, definitely put it on your radar to come next year. I heard that the ABBA's intention was to put it out there to see if any other states might want to host the event in their area for next year, so that we can go to different parts of Brahman country. But where ever it will be next year, I'm going to be there, and I would make a bet that every single person who attended the convention this year would say the same thing. It was one of the best Brahman events I have ever gone to.

Great Kempfer Brahman Sale

We just got word from Tim Lockhart that the Kempfer's Brahman Bull sale was an awesome sale! The high selling Brahman bull brought in a bid of $10,000. The Kempfer's hold their annual Brahman bull sale with Kensington Cattle Company who is an Angus breeder. So the sale features Angus and Brahman together. We have all been hearing reports about a resurgence of Brahman breeding in the southeast as many commercial producers feel that they need to get more Brahman blood in their cattle. Sounds to me like the rumors are true!! Congratulations to the Kempfer's on a great sale and further proof of the increasing demand for Brahman genetics throughout the south.

King Tut Visits Comedy Club

This was just too good to pass up!

We just got this photo from Christy at Legacy Cattle Service who told us that a Brahman bull was one of the stars at the Arkansas State fair! 5M King Tut, a member of the 5M show string, made an official visit to 'Shenaniguns Comedy Wild West Show', where hundreds of spectators at the show were able to see the beauty and gentle disposition of Brahman cattle.

Changes Underway for All American

One of the big items discussed at the recent board meetings in Waco was a re-vamping of the All American, which is going to bring some new - and I think better - changes to the show.

One of the suggestions we found in the 2011 All American exhibitor survey was that people were asking for the show to be held in a location that is close for the majority of our breeders. Another item that came up is that to host an All American takes on a HUGE effort from host states. If you have ever put on one of the All American shows, you know that it takes YEARS of planning, fundraising, and then you dang near work yourself to death during the week of the show getting everything together. It's something that quite honestly is deserving of a gold medal to those who do that volunteer activity.

So at the past 2 youth committee meetings, we have really taken a good hard look at the All American and ways we can keep making it better while trying to take that huge burden off the host states. The answer we came up with was this:

The AJBA will take on the responsibility of hosting, planning, and paying for the All American for the next 6 years starting in 2013.
For the next 6 years, the All American location will rotate between two locations: Lufkin, Texas and West Monroe Louisiana. It'll be in Lufkin in 2013, 2015, and 2017. West Monroe in 2014, 2016, 2018.

When I write that, it looks so simple. But let me tell you, it wasn't. The AJBA staff and youth committee put in a LOT of research for this to determine if they can undertake the administrative and financial responsibilities of this. We contacted 10 different possible sites, got proposals back from 6 of them, and looked over each different site proposals to find the location that best fit our needs and our budget.

We all know the West Monroe facility. You might be asking about Lufkin. We went there for the All American a few times before, with the last time being in the early 1990s. Currently the Lufkin facility is completing a $1 million dollar renovation of their facility, and it will be ready in 2012. Thanks to the help of the Polk family (local breeders) who put us in touch with the city, we were also able to get a great package to host the show there! The Lufkin city gave us a great proposal, and I think it's going to be great!

So, get ready for Oklahoma in 2012, and we know that's going to be a great one! Then after that, it's Lufkin and West Monroe, here we come!

If you're like me, you probably operate your personal schedule on a constant - What's Next? plan. I swear nearly every day I wake up and ask myself - or someone else -- Now what day is it again???

So we've got Waco behind us, and a few of y'all road warriors are now finished with Dallas and Little Rock. so what's next? Well, one of the next Brahman events coming up is the brand new ABBA Membership Convention.

The convention is going to be in Galveston, Texas, on November 4-5. Attention Kyle Hudgins, Tom Oden, and all you other avid hunters.....yes, you can postpone your opening weekend of deer season and come out to Galveston instead. There will be plenty of time for hunting. Don't shoot me for saying that. I know y'all hunters take that seriously.

ABBA reports that right now there are about 80 people registered for the convention. Make that 85, because I sent in 4 registrations today and I know of one more person who registered today too. So the registrations are coming in, and it's going to be a real fun time.

Everyone always says they wish there was an event that we could all go to to socialize, kick back and relax, and not have to worry about taking care of cattle at. So here's that event!

Stall Signs: The perfect way to advertise!

Last week at the National Brahman Show in Waco, Texas, Brahman breeders across the country brought forth the best in competition. With that, they also brought the best in ranch advertising.

While I was walking through the barns, I could not help but find some of my favorite displays being those the Ranch House Designs created. I am not a Brahman breeder, so names and brands still don't mean a great deal to me as far as relating to the cattle those brands represent. However, no matter who you are a great design is going to catch your attention. It doesn't matter what kind of cattle stand behind those stall signs, if the design is noticable then the ranch will be memorable.

Take these two signs for example. Pretty hard to miss, don't you think?

Brahman Pigment

Pop Quiz: Where are the three places on the Brahmans body that black pigment should be expressed?

According to the American Brahman Breeders Association Standard of Excellence, Section III, the COLOR of American Brahman cattle can be grey or red of varying shades predominate. Brindle, gruella and true white (albino) are disqualifications. Muzzle, hoofs, and switch black. Horns dark. Check out the fall issue of the Brahman Review for more info, but here's a quick synopsis of what all that means...

The black tail.....
The tail on every Brahman - red or grey - should be black in color, like this bull shown here.

All four hoofs should also be black in color.

The pigment on the tips of Brahman cattle’s ears can be expressed differently, and both are desirable. However, here’s a trick: grey cattle with black tipped ears (like the heifer on the right) were born red and turned grey. Cattle with black tipped ears, along with a black scrotum or vulva are highly likely to offer the versatility of breeding red or grey.

Some news from Waco

Well, today is the last day of the 2011 National Brahman Show and it's been great. I am trying to type this on my iPad, which I haven't quite mastered, so I will keep it short.

Heritage won grand champion cow with their cow calf pair Mae 66/9. V8 Ranch had reserve with the calf champion, who is sired by Alfredos 110 bull out of a Karu daughter. Circle T and Lady Rhineaux won grand champion red and Heritage had reserve with Tricia.

The heart of Texas Brahman breeders are doing a grat job hosting the show. At any given time you can usually find someone from the Swaner, Colllins, Or Bailey family out there'd helping.

Oh, and guess what Brahman breeder who recently moved from Washington DC to Waco was the show announcer? Jimmy Sartwelle! It was so great to hear that familiar voice covering our show.

The Story of How Sloan Williams Purchased V8 Ranch

Over the past few months, Brahman Review / RHD has been working with Ideal Video Productions and Cattle In Motion to expand our video services here. If you haven't checked out the video on The Story of Manso or watched the Kickoff Classic Highlights, check those out.

Our latest creation was a joint project that I had to twist my granddad's arm to do! I know a lot of people ask us how we got the name V8 Ranch, and stuff like that. Dadaw (that's what we call Sloan) purchased the V8 Ranch from Howard Parker of Center, Texas in December 1971. The deal was made from a pay phone in Red River, Colorado while the family was on a ski trip!

I always enjoy listening to my granddad's stories, and I know he likes to share them with all his Brahman friends. So here is our latest video blog, this one is Sloan Williams and Jim Williams talking about how they made the deal and how excited they were when they purchased the V8 herd from Howard Parker.

What do Sale Barns Want?

With most of the southern half of the United States in a severe drought, cattlemen are resorting to culling their cow herd to make ends meet. Dustin Keith, third generation cattle buyer has seen the market fluctuate over the years. When the thermometer got stuck on 100° F this summer, Keith knew his orders were about to change.

“In severe drought, most of the middle aged cows, older cows, and open cows are going to slaughter. However, there is still a market for the younger, higher quality replacement cows and pairs, most of which are going out of state,” says Keith.

What should a breeder expect when culling cattle?

“Recently, the fatter “packer” cows have been in a higher demand. They will actually bring $10-$15 more per hundred as compared to the thinner cows,” says Keith. “This is because of the inflated numbers of cutter/canner (older cows who are destined for slaughter) cows being sold due to the drought.”

No matter what the environment, if cattle do not produce a calf year after year, they serve little purpose. However, there are cases when a producing cow needs to be culled.

“It’s not necessarily the age of the cow that needs to be taken into consideration, as much as the wear on her teeth or the quality of her udder,” says Keith.

“A cow that’s been ran in a sandier region will wear her teeth quicker than a cow that’s been grazing in a more lush pasture type region,” says Keith. “As a general rule of thumb, a cow that’s around 10 years old whose teeth roots are starting to show or if she’s beginning to lose her teeth could be considered for the cull list. A cow with a bad udder or a cow that doesn’t breed back or produce a calf every year needs to go, too.”

The longevity of production years of the Brahman and Brahman F1 female is an added benefit to many cattlemen, who find their Brahman F1 females in production for anywhere from two years to ten years more than their non-Brahman counterparts.

In this drought, culling cows is a common trend. But, in the long run, management is the best way to ensure your cull cattle list is short and full of healthy, quality cows that will surely bring a return.

Tweeting #Brahman during National Show

I would venture to say that it's a guess that not too many of our Brahman Blog readers are twitter users. I mean, I kind of doubt there is a user named @tomoden who tweets every day. But hmm, wouldn't it be interesting if there was ha ha!

Seriously, there are a few of us on Twitter and the more I use it, the more I like it. One of the features of twitter is to use the "#" symbol in front of a word to make that a searchable subject. It's called a hashtag. We're really getting advanced now aren't we!

The more people that use a # in front of the word, the more that word becomes a trend on twitter. It's called "trending". For example, yesterday the hashtag #amandaknox was trending after the trial.

Common hashtags for ag are #cattle, #ranch #ag #agchat #ranchlife #beef, etc.

We started using #brahman as a hashtag earlier this year and it's starting to catch on. What you do is just put that # in front of anything you put on twitter saying Brahman. Then it becomes searchable.

So in preparation for the National Show, we're getting everyone ready for a tweet up. If Ricky Booth (user name @rsbooth) can do this, anyone can. J/k Ricky.

AJBA Foundation Heifer Donor Needed

Linn, TX – “On Saturday, October 1st, starting at 9 : 00 AM, La Muneca Cattle Co. will be hosting our 24 th Annual Jr. Round Up & LMC Futurity, states LMC owner, Carlos X. Guerra. There will be speakers on selection of cattle & hay, judging, feeding, fitting, showmanship, goal setting, leadership, what a family can expect from an animal project, how to finance your cattle purchases, the 2012 American Jr. Simbrah Round Up and the future of women in agriculture. Special presentations will be made by Aaron Alejandro, Joelynn Donough, Joseph Rathmann, Michael Grahmann, Dean & Kallie Fuchs, Benny Cano, Brad Cowan, Joe Mask, Victor & Carlos X. Guerra Jr. .

Giving Back....Brahman Review T-Shirts

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past six months, chances are you have picked up - or seen someone wearing - one of the three Brahman Review t-shirts that we have given away in 2011. The Brahman Review feels it is extremely important to use the resources from our publication as a venue to promote Brahman cattle to anyone and everyone under the sun.

Last summer, it was the Brahman Silly Bands. Those were a huge hit! So earlier in 2011, we were trying to think of something we could give away at Houston as a keepsake that our international guests would enjoy. That’s when the idea of a t-shirt hit us! We quickly went to work on a great design that would showcase the beauty, nobility and power of the American Brahman. The result...the creation of “The Greatest Brahman Show In The World” t-shirts.

Over the course of three days, we gave out 1,000 t-shirts free of charge at the International Brahman Show. The shirts were a huge hit, with people instantly shucking their current attire to put on their new Houston Brahman Show t-shirt.

This success prompted us to create another give-away to be held at the All American. The second Brahman Review t-shirt was tailored for the summer, with our un-official summer Brahman motto: “If you can’t take the heat...get out of the kitchen!” These were also given away free of charge to anyone who wanted a shirt. In Fort Smith, we gave away 500 shirts in 2 days.

Sure, the t-shirts are fun, but there’s a bigger picture. Each time someone wears the shirts, they promote Brahman cattle. So wear them with pride!

Giving away 1,500 t-shirts in six months isn’t easy, or cheap. But, we enjoy doing these things as a way to show our appreciation to everyone’s support of the newly created Brahman Review. We will continue to support Brahman activities in the future in any way possible. We love doing this, as different opportunities arise, to show our advertisers and subscribers that the profits made from The American Brahman Review are then used used to in turn support Brahman activities on local, state, and national levels.

Moving your Texas cattle somewhere else because of the drought?

Just got this from the Texas Animal Health Commission, it's got helpful information for those of us Texans who are getting help from our Louisiana and Mississippi friends to take some cattle for us during the droughts. It's just a reminder that you have to have your health papers in order before you ship the cattle.

Attention Cattle Buyers & Shippers

Due to the severe drought, a number of Texas cattle are currently being moved to other states.

Cattle that are being shipped from Texas must meet the animal health entry requirements of the receiving state. These entry requirements are mandated by the state of destination not by the state of origin. Different classes of cattle may be subject to different interstate animal health requirements. It is the owner/shipper responsibility to insure the shipment of cattle have obtained the needed/proper documents, ie. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), entry permit, etc.

It is also the responsibility of the shipper to obtain the services of an accredited veterinarian to complete a CVI (health certificate) for the cattle being shipped interstate.

The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) and accredited veterinarians can assist cattle shippers with interstate cattle movement questions. By working together we can insure that Texas cattle continue to be valued by the cattle industries in other states.

How to Use Cattle In Motion

I had originally intended on putting this blog out before the V8 Internet sale, but somehow it didn't get published. Hmm, imagine that, we were pretty busy. Before our Internet sale, a good friend of mine texted me and suggested I write a blog on how to use the Cattle In Motion online auction system. I didn't get it published, but I wish I would have. During the sale, we got quite a few calls from people asking us how they could sign in, and what they had to do to bid. The Cattle In Motion team was beyond excellent with their customer service, but I still wish more people knew how to use their system. So, I thought this might help. Since CIM has become the primary system that Brahman people use for their Internet sales, hopefully this will help everyone out!

Okay so the first step to getting started with CIM is to Register to Bid. This is setting up your account with Cattle In Motion. You have to register an account, then you have to go in and add the $1 lifetime subscription to your "cart". Then you check out the cart just as if you were buying something online. Once they verify your card is legitimate, and your email is legitimate, you can view/watch/bid on any sale every conducted by CIM. This is really just a safeguard to make sure that people who bid are real live people, not like a hacker, or a robot.

Once you get registered, you also have to "SIGNUP" for individual sales. For example, if you wanted to bid on the V8 sale, you would have had to "SIGNUP" for our sale. There is a little button on the individual sales pages that let you do this. You have to be signed up in order to bid.
CIM offers two types of online sales 1)Internet Bidding Auctions and 2) Private Treaty listings. The V8 and Heritage sales are "Internet Auctions." The Schneider and J.D. Hudgins are private treaty listings. On the private treaty listings, the Schneiders and JDH have established prices they are asking for each lot, and you can buy it instantly. There is no bidding. V8's and Heritage sales are Intenet Bidding.

The Internet Auctions are generally held for a 3 day period. Cattle in Motion posts the sale preview about 2 weeks before the sale to give people time to look over the videos and schedule visits to the ranch if needed. Then once the Internet Sale opens, people who are registered with CIM have the 2-3 days to bid.
Internet bidding on CIM is similar to the ebay system. The sellers have put an opening bid. If you want to bid, there will be a place on the CIM site where you can type in what your bid is. You can bid in increments of $100. So if the asking price is $1500, you can type in your bid, and it can be anything from $1600 on up. You can type in a higher bid, but you cannot jump a bid for more than $900 at a time (to prevent people getting run).

You can also put in what they call a "Proxy Bid" which is helpful. If you enter a proxy bid, this is what you would pay as your maximum amount. It is confidential, and the people hosting the internet sale do not know what proxy bids exist on a certain lot, if any. This way, if someone else bids on your lot, the CIM system will automatically bid for you until your proxy bid is reached. But, if no one bids against your lost, the system doesn't bid for you. So again, you will not get run on a certain lot. This is confidential. However I think once you enter a proxy bid, you can't go back in and change it. So make sure you are sure that is what you want to pay before you put in the proxy.

A lot of people ask how do you know who wins the bid. Well when the sale is close to ending, you'll see on each lot the countdown until that lot closes. The person who has the highest bid when the lot closes out is the winner. Keep in mind, your proxy bids can come in handy here. If you're bidding and you try to bid, then notice the system tells you you are already outbid, there's a good chance someone else has a proxy on that lot and the system is bidding for them. The lot will not close out until there has been 1 solid minute with no bids. This way it gives everyone fair chance to get in their last bids.

The internet bidding is also set up where there is about 3-5 minutes between the close out of each lot. This gives people a little time in between lots to re-group and take a breather if they need a few minutes to gather their thoughts and make decisions between the differnet lots.

During our sale, which was our first internet sale, we learned a lot. We learned that you need to hit "Refresh" periodically to make sure your computer screen is showing the current bid. We also learned that it is a good idea to get your bids in early. Don't wait until there is 5 seconds left on that lot....because even though you might have hit bid, 5 seconds might not be enough for your bid to reach the server depending on if you are on a slow internet or not.

Brahman Review announces "Awards of the Year"

The American Brahman Review is proud to announce the creation of three special awards that to help recognize outstanding members and supporters of the Brahman community.

In our continued efforts to give back to the breed, we will be awarding the following awards of recognition in our Winter 2012 publication:

·         Volunteer of the Year
·         Family of the Year
·         Educator of the Year

These awards are open to any and everyone, and will be selected through a nomination process. Once all nominations are received, winners will be selected by a panel of judges composed of 1 member of Brahman Review staff and 2 ABBA members.

Nominations are now open, and will be received until November 1^st.

To nominate someone that you feel is deserving of this recognition, e-mail the names of the nominee and a brief description of why you feel they are deserving of recognition. These nominations will be used by the selection committee. E-mail your nominations to joelynn@ranchhousedesigns.com.

Winners will be featured in our Winter 2012 issue at the start of the 2012 year and each will receive an awards plaque and additional prizes from The American Brahman Review.

Educator of the Year
Ever had that professor or ag teacher that really went above and beyond in the classroom? Or maybe it was a mentor that took more time than needed to teach you something. This category is for them. Think of anyone who has taught you the value of the beef industry while still promoting the Brahman breed. Suggested nominees include ag teachers, extension agents, 4-H leaders, university professors, teachers.

Volunteer of the Year
Stock shows, events, and other Brahman activities would not be possible without a relentless group of people putting them on. This category is for those individuals who make it their number one priority to see success in the breed through get promotion and events. They could be ABBA members, breeders that put on special activities, show staff or even ringsters. They dedicate their time for the benefit of the association and the breed as a whole.

Family of the Year
Think of a family that does an exceptional job supporting the breed, its association and marketing. Got any in mind? Then here is where you can give them the recognition they deserve! Cast your vote for any family that steps up and makes the success of Brahman the goal in their entire household.

Affiliates Happenings

Did you know...the ABBA has many state and regional Brahman affiliate associations who work hard to promote Brahman cattle at their state and local level? These affiliates are the grass roots of the ABBA and do a lot of good work for the association. Here are just some highlights....

The Bluebonnet Brahman Association hosted the very successful Kickoff Classic Show in Brenham, Texas. During this event the group hosted complimentary hamburger lunches and ice cream socials for all exhibitors at the show. They also hosted the ABBA Board of Directors and committee members for a summer meeting.

The Texas Brahman Association held their annual meeting in conjunction with the Kickoff Classic. Officers for 2011-2012 include Al Herring, president; Tommy Stadler, 1st vice president; Jimmy Sartwelle, 2nd vice president; and Lynn Neely, secretary/treasurer. Directors elected to serve include Ken Abney, Danny Acevedo, Buddy Bailey, Mike Burkhart, Brandon Cutrer, John Gnemi, John Haarmeyer, John Locke, Bob McCandless, Gary Hartman, Mike Partin, Kevin Pond, Wes Schneider, Pasquale Swaner, Randall Tipp and Jim Bob Trant.

Members of North and South Carolina have been steadily promoting Brahman through the Carolina Brahman Breeders Association. CBBA has established scholarships at both North Carolina State University and Clemson University with a preference to be given to students studying animal science. For the past two years the group has funded scholarships for $250 at each of these institutions.

Louisiana Brahman Association members have a busy fall schedule. Despite the weather concerns, they hosted the Louisiana Sugar Classic over Labor Day weekend in New Iberia, Louisiana. They are also participating in the Ark-La-Miss open Brahman show in late September. The LBA Field Day will be hosted by Esthay Cattle Company on October 1 in Kaplan, Louisiana. The group will also have a presence at the State Fair of Louisiana in early November, as well as hosting the Jambalaya Classic in November in Gonzales, Louisiana.

The Florida Brahman Association hosted their annual field day in late April. They also had a strong presence at the annual Florida Cattlemen’s Association Convention in summer 2011 as well as the NCBA Summer Convention in early August.
The newest affiliate group is the Deep South Brahman Association which is open to members throughout the deep south. This group is in the organizational stages and their first endeavor includes a group promotional ad included in The American Brahman Review. They will also host a informational meeting at the Mississippi State Fair. Watch for more developments from this group in the upcoming months.

The Oklahoma Brahman Association looks forward to 2012, this group is busy with the organizational plans of hosting the 2012 ‘All American” National Junior Brahman Show. This event will be held in summer 2012 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

No matter what part of the country you are from, there is an affiliate Brahman group that would welcome your participation! Being in these great associations are a wonderful way to meet other local Brahman breeders and have a good time.

Our Fall 2011 issue is currently in the works of being printed.....and it's going to be the best Brahman Review you have ever seen! Even better than our Houston issue, for those of you who thought that one couldn't be topped!

So as we finish out our last issue for 2011, that means we will soon have our bound collectors editions ready for 2011 also. These should be available by December 1st.

We have a limited number of these available, because after each issue we print we hand out literally every single copy we print. We hardly ever have any magazines left over. We only had about 15 of those left over. Last week, we got a box of those returned to us that were un-deliverable to South Africa, so that gave us about 30 more. So that means we expect to have 45 bound editions available.

2 Year Anniversary

Well, every labor day weekend I like to reminisce on the fact that it's the anniversary of Brahman Blog! It seems hard to believe but it's been 2 years since we stated the blog back in 2009.

Since our first blog post on September 8,2009 , we've had over 450 different topics posted on www.brahmanblog.com. When I first started Brahman Blog, my goal was to put something out there that would help promote positive Brahman information on the web. I used to post every day, but as you've probably noticed, the frequency of my blogging has decreased since the addition of the precious little Mollie Jo Cutrer! :) So I know everyone understands and doesn't mind that I don't write as often as I used to.

Over the past 2 years Briana Bishop of Florida and Dale Baker of Texas have also volunteered as Brahman Bloggers. Briana does a great job posting photos and news from over in the southeast and Dale keeps us all smiling with his posts! Stuart Watkins promises me he will make a blog post soon too!

I'm really amazed at how Brahman Blog has taken off. Seems like we just started at the right time, and that people like knowing there's a place they can easily get the latest casual Brahman news and information.

We have lots of people from around the world who tell us they love to check the blog to find out what's going on in the U.S. with Brahmans.

During the course of the Brahman blog, we've sent nearly 20,000 visitors to the www.brahman.org ABBA web site. The only web sites that send more people to the ABBA web site than us are Yahoo and Google. This is probably one of the most exciting things because our goal is to get people to ABBA, where they can get all of the information about Brahman that they'll ever need.

So, it's been a lot of fun over the past 2 years. And, as I get more of the hang of being a mom, I'm going to try to post more frequently. Bear with me ha ha :)

New Trans Ova Center in Livonia, LA

Trans Ova Genetics recently opened a new satellite center, in partnership with JC Bar Genetic Center, located in Livonia, LA. JC Bar Genetic Center, a locally owned and operated donor and recipient housing facility located 45 miles southeast of Baton Rouge, known for their excellent donor care, will host the new Trans Ova Genetics satellite center.

The new satellite center will combine the technical expertise of Trans Ova Genetics professional services team with the donor care and attention to detail that is provided by JC Bar Genetic Center. The team will be lead by Shane Bellow, center manager at the Centerville, Texas location who will work closely with James and Brandon Chenevert, owners and operators of JC Bar Genetic Center. The JC Bar Genetic Center location will begin monthly aspirations in August 2011.

While the JC Bar Genetic Center is equipped to house and synchronize donors, clients will also have the option of synchronizing donors at their home and hauling them to the center on the day scheduled for aspiration. The Trans Ova team will aspirate donors at the Louisiana Center and return to the Texas lab in order to fertilize and incubate the oocytes. Viable embryos can then be transferred into Trans Ova recipients, a weaned calf program, or breeders can choose to have their embryos shipped to their homes where they can then be transferred into the breeder’s recipients. If the client chooses to freeze the viable embryos, the embryos will be stored at the Centerville, Texas location.

As you know, the response and support of The American Brahman Review has been so greatly appreciated over the past year. As we talk to our advertisers, they asked us to offer more advertising options other than just full page and half page ads.

So starting with our next issue we will be offering these new page sizes, as a way to provide some different ad options for all budgets.

NEW: 1/3 page ad: $150
NEW: 2/3 page ad: $350

Also we are offering the 1 1/3 page ad, which may seem strange but this is a format you see quite often in fashion or sports magazines. With this format the advertiser has a full page on one side, then on the other side you have an editorial story that fills up 2/3 of the page with your ad on the remaining 1/3 page. This is a very cool look and is available for $600.

We are beginning to put together our fall issue which is going to be great as always plus have a few new features! We try to make each issue better than the last and we have a few new tricks up our sleeve.

LBA Field Day October 1

The Louisiana Brahman Association would like to invite everyone to attend their 2011 Field Day!

The LBA Field Day will be held October 1, 2011 at Esthay Cattle Company in Kaplan, Louisiana.

Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. followed by informational sessions including:

I saw some good news today on http://www.cattle.com/ that actuallly kind of suprised me. The post was on the "Most Visited Breed Association Websites" where Jeff ranks the breed association web sites by the # of hits they get.

I wasn't suprised that Angus was #1, or really that Hereford was #2. But guess where Brahman was? #3!! Pretty darn good if you ask me!

I remember sitting in the long range planning committee meetings a few years ago and one of the goals identified was to help make http://www.brahman.org/ as the clearinghouse for all Brahman related information in the U.S. The communications committee has also been steadily discussing ways to keep making the http://www.brahman.org/ site better. Chris and Armi also work very hard at sending in tons of updates to keep the site fresh.

I think we can take a few things from the increased # of hits the site is getting...

1. There's an increased interest in Brahman cattle.

2. ABBA members are using the web site.
